NAVAL AIRMEN'S ACTIVITY. SUCCESSFUL RAIDS. - c c Australian and N.Z. Cable Association and Reuter. LONDON, September 18. (Received Sept. 19, at 7.45 p.m.) The Admiralty reports: The Royal Air Force, in conjunction with the navy, made several successful raids on Bruges docks, where a fire was started on the quays, and the Wytkerke and other aerodromes. The activity of enemy aeroplanes is below normal. " Five were brought down; two Britsih are missing, believed to bo lost in a neutral country. 'HOSTILE RAIDERS ENCOUNTERED. THE ENEMY TURNED TAIL. LONDON, September 18. (Received Sept. 19, at 9.45 p.m.) The Admiralty reports: During the past 48 hours Royal Air Force contingents, co-operating with 1 the navy, dropped 13 tons of bombs on the Bruges docks and the Mariaalen a-erodr.ome. We destroyed 11 hostile machines and drove down seven uncontrollable; four British ] machines are missing. Two seaplanes and two aeroplanes en- j gaged a formation of five enemy seaplanes approaching the east coast.- One hostile machine was destroyed, and the remainder retired eastwards. A PHOTOGRAPHIC RECONNAISSANCE. LONDON. September 18. (Received Sept. 19, at 11.30 p.m.) 1 Sir D. Haig's aviation report states: Enemy aircraft are less active. On the 1 17th inst. the British carried out a recon- * naissance of photography all day long far beyond the German lines. We destroyed 11 and drove down five enemy machines ; ] 10 British machines are missing. We ' heavily bombed three German aerodromes < at night time, and brought down three ■ large hostile night-bombers over our lines. ( One British night-flyer is missing. We dropped 29j tons of bombs during the past 24 hours.
