OBITUARY.
CARDINAL FARLEY. Pros* Association—By Telegraph—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. NEW YORK, September 17. (Received Sept. 19, at 0.15 a.m.) The death is reported of Cardinal Parley. John Murphy Farley was born at Newton Hamilton, County Armagh, Ireland, in April, 1842. Educated in Ireland, America, and Rome, he was ordained priest at Rome in 1870: He acted as Secretary to Archbishop M'Closky from 1872 to 1884, and in the latter year was appointed Private Chamberlain to Pope Leo XIII, with the title Oi Monsignor; appointed Vicar-general of the Archdiocese of New York in 1891; Domestic Prelate to Pope Leo XIII in 1892; Auxiliary Bishop of New York, 1895; qn death of Archbishop Corrigan in ISO2 was appointed Administrator of New York • subsequently became Archbishop of that diocese, and in 1911 was elevated l to the Cardmalate.
