AMUSEMENTS.
Those who like a picture to end in a totally unsuspected maimer will find "Under False Colours" entirely to their taste. It is especially surprising in conclusion and i tense in situation. Pathe are the producers, and it will commence at the Queen's and King Fid ward Theatres this afternoon. Included in the programme will be the fourteenth epifode of the serial "The Mystery of the Double Cross," also Charlio Chaplin as a fireman. "The Book Agent," a five-act drama, featuring George Walsh, tho famous Fox artist, will bc> presented at the Plaza Theatre to-day as the star subject in a. capital list of Sims. The adventures of the book agent are told in a charming fashion, tho story ripples along in a refreshing manner, and the new ground in the way of plot broken in this production will prove welcome to patrons. The oilier subjects «e well varied and of a high order. The cast of "The Purple Lily," tile extraordinary World drama to be screened a't Everybody's Theatre to-day, is an effective one, being led hy Kitty Gordon and including Muriel Ostriche and Frank Mayo. Tho story tells of the wife of a Canadian backwoodsman who, wearied of the monotonous 'round of life in the "north woods." and who committed the folly of listening to the lure of a man who promised life and excitement in the city. There are many dramatic situations, and the play moves at a consistent speed to 'the end. It shows how, disillusioned of her dreams of jollity and excitement, and having been instrumental in deceiving a good man, she goes back to tho "north woods," wondering if the husband whom she finds she truly loves will take her back. Chapter eleven of the serial play "A Lass of the Lumberlands," and a Keystone comedy are included in tho supporting; pictures. Tho current programme at the King's Theatre contains two star attractions. —a magnificent seven-part drama, "The Fires of Conscience," featuring William. Farnum, and an engrossing six-reel production, "A Wife's Sacrifice," in which the leading parts are played by Robert Mantell and Genevieve Harper, described as the most beautiful woman in the world. Tho supports include a western comedy, "Hearts and Saddles." ORCHESTRAL CONCERT. At His Majesty's Theatre to-night tho third concert of tho thirty-first season of the Dunedin Orchestral Society will be given. The conccrt will open with Elgar's march "Imperial." the second item will be Cowen's "Language of Flowers," of which two movements are to be performed. The principal item of the concert will be Mendelssohn's Concerto No. 1 for piano, with orchestral accompaniment, with Mrs J. D. Woods as solo pianist. The second half of the programme will open with Herold's overture "Zampa." This is to he succeeded by Sullivan's favourite overture, "Patience." The orchestral programme will conclude with Prout's waltz "The Cloister." , The assisting soloists are Miss Kathleen j Carter and Mr J. M'Grath. The concert . will mark the opening of tho society at - His Majesty's Tneatre.
