I sa ,d, "Oh, Sir Frederick, I am exerted; why this honour"' "Becauso you are the oldest (not in years) V.A.D. here, and being a New Zealander. the King and Queen .are very interested m your country " Well, wo aE got fairly cxcitcd as the hospital had to be put in order for their Majesties' visit to tbe patients. Lady Haig arrived at 2.30 with her baby son, and we were all introduced and talked to her. Wo made a fu» of thel Field Marshals baby, of course. Then at 3.30 the_ Royal party arrived. After wo had curtsied to them, Sir Fredo--1 j presented me to tho King and then to the Queen. They talked to me much longer than over I expected, and wero very interested about Now Zealand Ihey asked mo if I was born out there and when I came over to England The King IS fine, and I felt at rnv ease immediately they started talking to me It seemed quite funny to be sayinc TMfa m and Sir to them. I felt that it would have been much easier to say Tour Majesty." My word, I did feel honoured. I'm sure you never thought Td bo presented to the King and Queen.
