(Pan Umitkd Amooiatiob.i AUCKLAND, August 23. The Hon. Mr Wilford has announced that a Royal Commision will be set up to report on the question of the trawling limits in Hauraki Gulf. Tho Minister stated that Mr Mac Donald has agreed that the Board of Trade should fully investigate tho price of fish. .

Tho office of Mr W. E. Hutchison (builder and contractor) was entered last night, and a small safo containing £15 was removed outside, where it was found empty and wrecked by explosives.

WELLINGTON, August 23. Referring to tho conference discussing the Defence Commission's report, Sir James Allen said tho administrative heads had a perfectly proper function in trying to ascertain suggestions that were suitable for adoption. They -were not discussing tho report in any critical spirit as departmental experts. They were the men best able to .judge of the practicabieness of the commission's recommendations.

The annual conference of representatives of the New Zealand Auto-cycle Union was held in Wellington to-day. Race dates were allotted as follows: —Dannevirke, Labour Day; Hawera, November 20; Ashhurst, January 1; Palmerston North, January 22; Marton, March 19; Napier, April 19 and 21; Christcliurch, February 15 or 16. Championship! events were allotted thus:— Heavy-weight, Palmerston North: middleweight, Marton; light-weight., Hawera. The following officers were elected: —President, Mr G. Torstonson (Palmerston North); vicepresidents—Messrs A. S. Erskine (Napier), J. Gray (Hawera), J. Dawber (Palmerston North). J. M'Dou gall (Marton), and A. Nash (Dannevirke); secretary and treasurer, Mr J. L. Lloyd (Dannevirke).

CHRISTCHURCII, August 23. At the Education Conference to-day Mr C. D. Hardic, school inspector, presented a paper urging the need of unity of control in secondary education. After discussion a committee was appointed to define tho scope of the various stages of education, and indicating the best means of effecting coordination between them.
