Sergeant A. White, who is officially reported by Court of Inquiry as having been killed in action on April 13, was the eldest son of tie late Mrs J. "White, Coughtrey street, St. Olair. He was born at Otrtram, and educated at the public school there. He joined tho National Bank at 16 yeans of age, and was stationed at Dimedin ho enlisted, and was regarded as one of the most promising officers in the bank's service. Ho went into owmp in November, 1915, and left with the Twelfth Reinforcements. Ho spent about two years in Sling Camp as bomb instructor before going to France. Ho was well known in athletic circles, being .a member of the Covorsham Harriers; and a playing member of tho Dunedan Football Club. TTiu only brothers—Corporal R. "White and Sapper E. White—ore both in France.
