Bartholomew, SM) _ Drunkenness—A first offender was' fined lUs. in default 48 hours imprisonment Receiving a Stolen Watch.—Ernest Hiscocke, through Mr Brasch, pleaded not guuty to a charge of receiving a watch, valued at £5, well knowing it to have been stolen. The facts were admitted, and the accused admitted having pawned the watah for 10s, and that he had received it from his stepson, who had got it in exchange for some marbles and a medal.— 0 magistrate convicted and ordered the accused to come up for sentence if called upon within 12 months, on condition that a n O, j costs within 14 days. Alleged Assault.—Francis Joseph Oann wV' T th bavins assaulted Charles William Cornelius so as to cause him actual bodily harm.—Mr Irwin appeared for accused .—Complainant gave evidence as to an altercation in front of the Old Post Offiw, when accused told complainant he would wajt for hun that evening. In the evening accused met him, and, after trllmg him to apologise, struck him a vio'er* blow, which knocked him down. Comply ant informed the police, and at their suggestion he went to Dr Evans. He and accused had had words previously at shows. —Dr Evans s evidence wae to the effect that when lie examined complainant be found his lower jaw fractured on bo'h sides, and sent him to the Hospital. Th o injury was such as would be caused bv a violent blow at the angle of the jaw and T'lf kkely to have been caused by a fall.—John Thomas Meek gave corroborative evidenoe.—Constable Kelly stated that when he arrested accused the latter domed having struck complainant, who, ho haul, fell against the _ kerbstone.—Accused wai committed for trial at the next sitting of the Supreme Court. Bail was allowed accused in his own recognisance of £100 and one surety of £IQQ or two of £50. The Kimberley diamond fields were discovered in 1871.
