Tlio meeting considered the remits from the various associations wli:ch are to be considered at tho annual Dominion Conference, to be held iu Auckland, commencing on the 27th 111 st. Tho remits, of whicn there aro a. largo number, aifect every juiraso of tlio association's work, and the Duncdin delegates (Messrs J. H. Moir and V" H. Wood) were acquainted with the views of the committee oil tho various questions to be dealt with. ' '^ 10 following aro the remits from tho | Duncdin Association 1. That tho Government be urged—(a) To set down a programme of proposed public works to bo commenced as soon as the war is finished; (b), to open up returned soldiers' settlements which aro a great distance from the railway by establishing a Government motor service to link up these settlements with the railways. 2. That the Defeuco Department be urged to oomb out all men of military ago and eligible for active service ocoupying staff positions, and that theso vacancies be filled by returned men, either discharged or returned on duty. 3. That the Defence Department be urged before men of independent means to positions in tho department, either on tiwj Appeal or Medical Boards, to advertiso these positions in the local papers, and so give returned men an opportunity of ap- [ plying 'or them 4. That oflioers and men of tho New Zealand Medical Corps now serving in Franco and Palestine bo given an opportunity of serving on hospital ships and in base hospitals and that their positions lie filled by men now serving on the Marama and Maheno, or waiting in New Zealand for a fresli appointment. 5. That the powjr of granting permits for the formation of new associations be vested in tho executive of such associations as shall bo decided by the conference, tho districts over which" they aro to have such power to bo also decided by the conference; that tho other associations in caeh such district _ shall become brandies of the chief association of that district, which shall define the boundaries of all associations in its district. Should any association or body of retained soldiers bo dissatisfied with tho decision of tho chief association of ita district regarding (a) permits to form associations, or (b) definition of boundaries, they shall have the right of appeal to'headquarters of tho New Zealand Roturned Soldiers' Association, whoso decision shall bo final. 6. That the Defenco Denartment be to supply reserved first class seating accommodation for all returned soldiers when travel ling fro-n tho port of disembarkation to tlieir homes.
