The Dunedin Fire Board entered an appeal for tinio on beludi of .John 'J lionuks llamann (a/ooounfcant and secretary), bo that ho might, put his accounts in order for tho end of tho iinancial yeiix.—Granted until the end of July. • Walter Henry Woods (shoa.ivr and freezing works employee, Duncdin) api>e:)led 011 the ground of public interest. —Captain Free aaid shearers had been exempted only during the season, ami the reservist was in tho least essential class of freezing works employees.—Tho board dismissed tho personal iuppoa.l. and tho Cha,irma.n said, i£ tho employer wished to lodge ail appeal, ho could do so later. ' Tho appeal in the case of Thomas Campboll (engineer, Port Chalmers), who had been granted conditional exemption, was reopened by Captain Free, who stated that the man was no longer necessary for transport work. Ho was a single man, and now that tho oompany lwd withdrawn its appeal thero was only tho personal appeal to be considered.—Mr Kcllett said that in cases of this kind he would. Like to be suro that thero was no victimisation owing to a difference of opinion with the foreman or some other cause.—Tho personal appeal was dismissed. the reservist to go forward with tho May draft. An application for a re-hearing was made on behalf of Percy Wilfred Moss (marine officer, Portoliollo), who stated that it had been impossible to secure anyone to take his plaee.—After hearing evidence the Chairman ruled that there was no authority for any application on*behalf of tho company. becauso no resolution was minuted to that offect. Tho only other question was iu regard to tho carriage of explosives, and this would bo referred to the Effieency Board for a report, tho appellant being granted a month's leave in tho meantime. Mrs Tda. Day applied for leave from camp for her husband, Ambrose Patrick Saul Day, who had volunteered for service, tho reason being that the appellant was in ill-health. — The board recommended that the man be not called up until the O class of the Second Division was being balloted. j Keith Ramsay applied for an extension of leave on behalf of John Alfred Dryden, on the ground that tho reservist (who had volunteered) was the only sawyer on his mill at. Owaka.—Leave for two months was granted in the meantime. An application for an extension of leave was entered by Mr W. J. P. M'Oullooh on hchfilf o£ Charles Samuel Hunt (motor salesman). Somo 13 or 14 of Mr M'Culloch's employees have gone to tho front, and this was the first man to be appealed for.—Granted leave until the July draft. Aubrey Houston (agent, Dunedin) asked for an extension of leavo for three months, as' he was required to undergo an operation for appendicitis at the end of the month.—Adjourned tor a month in the meantime, John Turnbull (labourer, Dunedin) had his allowed on the grouud that he was not a reservist, having been discharged from the forces after'toeing wounded in the present war. The appeal on behalf of John Barry (rabbit grader, Oama.ru) was formally dismissed, tho reservist being granted until tho June CI draft. Robert Henry Lobb (farmer, Brighton) 1 had an appeal entered on Ilia behalf by his mother on the ground that the reservist was the only one working tho farm. —Conditional exemption was granted. An application for an extension of leave was entered by Henry A. Cameron (firowood merchant and rooting agent), the reason being that he wished to completo certain contracts. —Adjourned for a month. Robert "Vincent (shearer and labourer, Mosgiel) appealed on the ground that he had been drawn in tho wrong class, and he also asked for an extension of time.—The ■board held that appellant had been drawn in the proper class. As the man does not go forward to camp until the G1 draft in July, was dismissed. The following appeals by the secretary of the Seamen's Union were adjourned sine die, tho-whole of the. reservists being engaged iu somo maritime employment: — Charles A. Hill, John White, Georgo F. Boorer, diaries Howell, Thomas Crooke, Roderick Montgomery, Robert Bolt, Richard Driver, William R. Hooper, Daniel M. Gray, Hugh , Kerrigan, Edward. Simmonds, William Campbell, William 1,. Anderson, Martin Grogan, Thomas Snow, Thomas Blake, Jamos O'Neill, John P. Morrison, Arthur Doull, William Evans, Georgo Foid, J. S. Gore, M. Leader, Clias. Mallcy, Alexander J. Mathoson, Ernest R. Ekwall, Gilbert Penny, and Patrick Riley. Tho appeals of Herbert S. Baker and Edwin' W. King were dismissed. On the application of Mr D. A. R. M'Ewan (secretary of Cooks' and Stewards' Union), conditional exemption was granted to the following, most of wham are stewards on transports: —T. Brugner, Arthur J. Knapp, A. P. Russell, Edward Fleming", Fredk. J. \V. Moss, and John liousego. Tho appeals of August Morrison (mechanic, Dunedin) and Cyril O'Connell (engine-oleanor, Dunedin) were allowed, on the ground that both were under age. John Charlos ITislop (engine-driver, South Dunedin) and John Cameron (railway fireman, St. Kildn) had their appeals referred to Mr Cumming for a report. Tho appeals of George Campbell (labourer. Port. Chalmers) and Henry John Jacobs (railwayshop engine-man) were allowed, the appellants being placed in F and C classes respectively.
