OTAGO HARBOUR BOARD.

Um enfimury meeting of the Otago Harbour Board was held yesterday afternoon at the olos© of the meeting of the board's Standing Commit tea. The chairman (Mr J. Loudon) presided, and there were also present: Messes D. Laroach, N. Galbraith, T. H. Russell, J. Tait, H. L. Tapley, J. Walker, H. E. Moller, T. Scollay, A. H. widger, W. Wilkinson, and Captain SnicdKtrum.

A net credit balance at tho bank of £13,538 19a Id wm reported. Tho Auditor-general wroto with reference to the board's remission of dues on the sj. Moana,_ stating 1 that the transaction vraa clearly illegal aid consequently the subject of contingent penalties aa .provided by the board's by-laws. He called upon the board to submit at on early date such reasons as it might wish to express why he should not bring the facts under the notice of the proper authority for the institution of legal proceedings.—Members pointed out that tho balance sheet had already been returned certified without any tags. Tho matter wan referred to the chairman for report. The business done hi committee as the outcome of the Standing Committee's report was confirmed in its entirety by the open board. This involved tho following decisions:—

A sum of £25 to voted to the TJdLC.A. Bod Triangle Campaign Committee. _ The secretary o[ the Harbours' Association wroto notifying that the seventh annual conference would be held on July 31, and asking far remits.—The Chairman submitted a minute relative to a meeting of tho Harbours' Association Executive, which he had attended in Wellington, and promised that at next meeting of tho board he would submit remits to be placed before the conference.

Tho application from the town clerk, Dunedin, for an additional area adjoining the destructor site v«j> declined.

The District Engineer of Railways wrote asking if the board was agreeable to the department transferring a portion of the land leased by it at Pelichet Bay station to the Education Board for agricultural purposes in connection with the Albany Street School.—The board decided to offer no objection, provided tho terms of the sublease were satisfactory to itConsideration of proposals from the Chamber of Commerce as a result of a conference of delegates from the Chamber of Commerce, Darted in Fire Board, and Ota go Harbour Board was held over till next meeting.

With reference to daTnag® recently done to protective work? at tho entrance to tho dJock. at Port- Chalmers, tho engineer submitted a plan, which had. the approval of the harbour master, for tho erection of three dolphins. A sub-com-mittee was set up to rro into the matter, and report to tho board. It was decided to allocate tho board's accident insurances for the year 1918-1919 in equal _ amomrts fo each of the British ofEces doing business in Dunedin.
