GERMANY'S READINESS FOR PEACE. MORE FAIRY TALES. Australian and N.Z. Cablo Association. BERNE, February 13. The Kaiser has telegraphed to von Hin den burg that Russia's readiness to cease hostilities was due to Hindenburg's magnificent and crushing victories, adding that Hindenburg and hie army were the real peacemakers.
AMSTERDAM, February 13. The Pan-German newspapers echo the Kaiser's message to Hindenburg, and declare that victory will be won by the sword alone.
Semi-official Munich papers state that the Government and the Finance Minister agree that it will be necessary to demand heavy indemnities from the Western Allies, otherwise Germany's finances will bo crippled for a century.
RUSSIA'S DEFECTION. DOES IT BENEFIT GERMANY? WASHINGTON, February 13. Semi-official opinion here is that Russia's defection does not aid Germany. Owing to the absence of any treaty, Germany must retain troops on the east front while the securing of supplies from Ukraina is doubtful. NEW YORK, February 13. The New York World says that the Bolsheviks' defection seems to" confirm the worst suspicions of their cowardice and treachery.
The New York Herald prints a cartoon of Irotsky betraying Russia for 30 pieces of silver.
THE UKRAINIAN PEACE. POLES INCENSED.
ZURICH, February 10. The Berime/ Tageblatt's Vienna' correspondent states that the polish gioun has withdrawn its support from, the Austrian Government, owing to Polish interests being sacrificed to Ukraina. A majority, consisting of Poles, Czechs, and Jugoslav representatives, is opposed to the Government.
FREED FROM SERVICE.
LONDON. February 13. Thirty-four thousand Russians in England are now freed from the necessity of joining the army.
EXCHANGE OF PRISONERS.
BERNE, February 13. A wireless message state? that Germany and Russia have begun to exchange prisoners, and a thousand Germans from Russia have passed through Warsaw going towards Berlin.
