AMUSEMENTS.

Notwithstanding tlio wet weather prevailing last evening, there was a good audience at the Octagon Theatre, when onco again the current programme was enjoyed. The eh'of attraction was the film entitled "Tho Sweetheart of the Doomed," wliiU; tho supports were also very interesting. At tho l'laaa Theatre, commencing to-day, will be screened the powerful motion picture drama "Extravagance," featuring Olga l'etrova. who has thrown all of her wonderful dramatic power into this production. Mine. Petrova interprets the character of the spendthrift girl. She f-'hows her in society, hobnobbing with multi-millionaires, struggling to maintain a position not warranted by the wrecked resources of tile family. She depicts the love of this girl, ihe tremendous sacrifices demanded of her through the false lives of her father and herself. Probably no other star could hav thrown more realism into tho part than has Mme. IVt-rova, who held a high social posi-t-on in England, and also America. From beginning to end the plav is a powerful lesson, ;>nd it is filled with dramatic situations. The latest, Gazette, a comedy and charming scenic, complete tho programme. *' Her Strange Wedding." the chief picture at the Empire Theatre just now. is distinctly worth seeing. Tho story is an interesting one, and is remarkably well told en the rcreen, both actor and photographer having given of their best. There aro a number of supporting pictures, which. aro amply sufficient to justify patrons remaining after the chief picture has been shown.
