(Received Jan. 17. at 7.50 p.m.) At the end of 1917 food prices in Great Britain were 106 per cent, above those- ruling in July. 1914.. There lias been little increase since July, 1917. RATIONING SCHEME FOR LONDON. Renter's Telegrams. LONDON, January 16. (Recoived Jan. 17. at 7.50 p'.m.) The local food authorities of London have decided upon a rationing scheme similar to that adopted' in the issue of sugar tickets, to begin on February 25.

COAL CONSERVATION.
NEW YORK, January 16. (Received Jan. 17, at 11.30 p.m.) Owing to a shortage of,coal needed for ships, tho Government has closed all industries east of the Mississippi for five days, and will close all industries and theatres every Monday for 10 weeks. Monday's newspapers will also be restricted k> one edition. -The order does not affect railroads, hospitals, public utilities, or war munition factories.
RATIONING IN BRITAPN.
THE DEAF! SCHEME.
LONDON, January 16. The local food committees are considering Lord Rhondda's draft scheme for the rationing of better, tea, and margarine in London on tho lines of the sugar scheme with special tickets for children. Tho scheme will come into operation on February 25.
