SALVATION ARMY CHILDREN
The Sunday School anniversary in connection with the Salvation Army was celebrated by bright, interesting services on Sunday at the Dowling street fortress. Major Colviu presided over all the services, which were well attended. The Sunday School was under the control of Sergeantmajor Hewson, and iho singing by the children and their general behaviour did great credit to him and his assietants. The bright singing of the young people was a feature of the day. At the evening service a very fine rendering of "The Holy City" was given by Deputy-bandmaster Judd. Addresses appropriate to the occasion were given by Major Colvin. On Monday evening the annual entertainment and prize distribution attracted a large attendance. A most enjoyable programme, in which the skilled direction of Sergeant-major Hewson was apparent, was presented by the children, • and during intervals Major Colvin, who presided, presented the prizes to the successful amongst the bright group of children on 'the stage. The Young People's Corps sang several choruses. Miss Gilrhour's junior class went through some interesting physical drill with dumb-bells and skipping. Three tableaux, "A Soldier's Dream." "Light at Eventide," and "Curfew," with descriptive music and recitation, proved. very effective, as did also a biblical tableau, " The Calling of Samuel." The primary, department sang "If I Were a Sunbeam," and six little girls gave an amusing item, " How'd You Like to be a Baby?" Two dialogues, "Lulu's Picture" and "A Broken Window," a recitation, "The Duckling," by Alice Hancox, a pianoforte solo by Miss , Bradley, and a recitation, " A Boy's Grace," by Lulu Hancox, completed the programme.
