MURDER OF MISSIONARY
MORNINGTON ISLAND TRAGEDY.
VICTIM A NATIVE OF OTAGO.

INVERCARGELL, November 7.
The Rev. Robert Hall, who was murdered at/ Mornington Island, was a son of the late Mr John Hall, of Edendalo. Ho was born-at Taieri Beach 36 years ago, and his family removed to Edendalo- soon afterwards. The deceased subsequently spent some years in the Oamaru district in farming pursuits. In 1904 he. entered Belair College, Adelaide, with a view of qualifying for the foreign mission field. In 1909 he married Miss Tonkin, formerly of Oamaru, who had also received her missionary training in Adelaide. Iho deceased was the first missionary to work among tho Australian aboriginals. He was at Mapoon (North Queensland), and three_ years ago he was given the task of opening virgin territory at Mornington Island, and had made excellent progress.
