(2) A maternity allowance is payable under certain conditions to wives of members of approved friendly societies. " Inquirer."—Legislation that was passed last year prohibits the raising of the rent of a dwelling-house above tho rent payable at the beginning of tho war or above an amount equal to 8 per cent, of the capital value of the dwelling-house, except inthe case in which tho increase in rent is due to an increase in the rates or to improvements in tho dwelling. If the rent is being increased, tho landlord must give 28 days' notice of his intention to raise it.
