ROSLYN TENNIS CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. The thirteenth annual meeting of the Roelyu Lawn Tennis Olub was held last evening, whoa there was a fair attendance of members. Mr J. L. Salraotid (president) occupied the chair. Tho following' is the substance of tho annual report:—" Twenty-ono of tho club members and about 20 ex-members have responded to tho call of duty. Of these, Lieuteniint J. L. Reid, Corporal M'Dennid, and Gunner T. Park havo paid tho supremo sacrifice. Lieutenant J. Mncdougall, R. L. M'liines It. J. Maunsell, and C. S. Fraser have been invalided home, and EL J. Trcvethick, S. G. Scoular, R. Duncan, and B. J. Loudon havo been wounded. Tho following is a complete list of tho active members of tho club who havo joined tho colours:—R. Allen, G. J. Elack, Rex Black, E. Colder, 1. b. Coull, R. Duncan, C. S. Fraaer, W. K Gregory, J. E. K. Lambourne, B. J. Loudon, J. Macdougall, L. G. Macdougall, R. S. M'lnnes,, R, J. Maunsell, L. M. Paterson, T. Paterson, S. G. Scoular, O. Spnntag, W. Strang, J. S. Roid, and H. J. I revethick. During tho past season the active _ membership rose from 39 to 43, and by strict cconomv tho overdraft was reduced by £17 83 9d. The committee would urgo members to come to tho courts more regularly and in larger numbers. Tho committee arranged matches with tho Taieri, 'Varsity, and Kaituna Clubs. "Roslyn were successful in winning tho first match, but the University players were much moro thnn a match for tho club, and the Kaituna match had to be abandoned owing to advorso weather conditions. Thanks are due to Mrs J. L. Salmond for providing refreshments on opening day, and to tho Ladies' Committee, Mrs Callis and Miss Macaulay, and the ladies of the club who superintended afternoon tea. It is gratifying to know that jshere should bo at least four _ returned soldiers in tne membership, and it is felt they will bring new life into the ojub in the interest of their fellows still remaining in tho trenches." In moving tho adoption of tho report and balance sheet, tho President eulogised tho spirit of those members of • tho club who had gone forward on the Empire's behalf, •while tho club as a whole felt tho deepest sympathy for those of its members who had put the ball over the net for the last time. He had much pleasure in extending a welcotno to a number of returned members who were present, and he expressed the hope that tho club's courts would help to restore them to normal health. He congratulated the club on its satisfactory financial position, -which ho hoped would improve as the season progressed. In conclusion, Mr Salmond said that it was incumbent on the club to prove itself to .the enthusiasts away on ecrvice by helping to keep the association in working order. The report and balance sheet were adopted without discussion. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr J. L. Salmond; vieeprtsidents—Messrs R. S. Black, R. Armstrong, and Captain Strang; secretary, Mr J. L. Gregory; treasurer, Mr R. S. Black; auditor, Mr "R. Armstrong; committeeMrs Callis, Mise Macauley, and Messrs C. Callis, R. J. Maunsell, H. T. Prain, and R. S. M'lnnes; delegates to the association, Messrs C. Callis and J. L. Gregory. A motion -of sympathy and condolence was passed to the parents and relatives of the late Gunner Thomas Park, an ex-member of the club, who -was killed in action. It was agreed to forward a letter to Mr and Mre Park expressing the sentiments embodied in the resolution.

Some nine new members were placed on the club's books, while the matter of the opening date for the season was left to the new committee, and likewise a suggestion" proposing tho introduction of friendly matches between the different clube. ARTHUR CLUB. Tho annual meeting of the Arthur Street Tennis Club was hold on Wednesday evening in the school. Mr 0. H. Pinel presided over a large attendance of members. Bofore dealing with the business of the evening, all present stood in respect to the memory of Mr J. Kemnitz and Mrs James Edgar, two friends of the club who had passed away during the year. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, Mr Pinel congratulated the club on its flourishing condition, in spite of adverse* circumstances incurred by die waf. He abo made reference to tho fine response the male members of the club had made to the call of King and country., and expressed the hope tnat they wotdd soon be back nnd able to tako their place as members of the club again The lady membership was very satisfactory, and judging by tho large number of applications for membership, tho coming season promised to ba a good one.

Tho election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—President, Mr O. H. Pinel (re-elected); vice-presidentS-ivlessrs James Edgar, W. T. Talboys, TV. R. Brugh, and J. P. Dow; secretary <ind treasurer, Miss Lillian Dewar; committeeMessrs A. Wilson and H. Roseveare, Missus M. Thompson, M. Dow, and N. Hubble; delegate to Otago Lawn Tennis Association, Miss E. M. Blackie; hon. auditor, Miss B. Blaekwood. KAITUNA. The following is a digest of the report to be presented at tho annual meeting of tho Kaituna, Lawn Tennis Club-—"The activity of the club during the past season was naturally subdued and uneventful The courts were largely availed of on Saturdays, but wero not greatly in demand on other days. Matcnes were arranged with the University and Eoslyn Clubs, but bad weather prevented completion. Club tournaments wero arranged for as uenal, it being agreed that ontry fees should bo given as a special donation to the Otago Lawn Tennis Association, winners accepting certificates in lieu of the usual trophies. Almost every member of the club entered. The ladies , events were not completed, but the men's events and the combined , doubles were carried through, the winners being:—Men's faingles Championship, Mr R. A. WilkieMen's Singles Handicap, Mr W. R. Sinclair; Men's Doubles Handicap, Messrs F Oxford and R. N. Vanes; Combined Doubles Handicap, Mr A. G. Johnson and Dr Doris .Tolly. During the season Messrs J. C Anderson, R. IN. Vanes, M. J. M'Keefry L. Bennett, and Dr Gordon left to fight the umpire s battles... Tho other members, past and present, who have represented the club at tho front are Messrs R. Pyle (killed in *ctiOT), W Steeds, P. H. Instone, L. G. V- K- Mitchell, G. Munro, J. S. Nicolson F Reid. A. S. TVhitcombe, G. I ; 1 0- . & telll f' and K Wood ' making a total of 16 volunteers. The club still keeps tmancial those of its members serving at tho front. The membership roll shows a total of 33 men (including 11 on active servico) and 17 ladies The balance standing to the credit of the club is €63 10s 3d which is an increase of £8 4e as compared with last year. By forgoing trophies tho mornbere enabled the club to make a special donation of £4 15s to assist tho Otago Lawn lennjs Association, who have expressed themselves as very grateful for tho assistance thus rendered.
