FIRES. - Tho City Fire Brigade tamed out at 8.58 on Saturday evening, only to find that u. malicious fake alarm had been given from tho slot telephone in Customhouse square-. Shortly before 1 o'clock yesterday a call ■was received to a five-roomed house in Caldor street, North-East Valley, owned and occupied by Mrs Boss. Tho fire was caused through a gas ring being left lighted at right, and the kitchen and walls woro damaged, but not to any groat extent. The house waa insured in tho Victoria offices for £250 and tho furnifcuro for £160. A third call was received at 915 Last evonmg, to tho Main South road, Cavcnsham, where a firo had broken out in an oight-roomed houso owned and occupied by Mr .fames CampbolL The roof and buck portion of tho building were rather badly damaged by fire, and the whole ti th-> strectaro wm soordied.
