MUSICAL FESTIVAL IN CHRISTCHURCH.
The second festival for the encouragement of music by New Zealand composers is to be held in Christchurch liexfc May. Tho movement was inaugurated last year under the patronage of the Earl of Liverpool, and at the first festival works by eight Now Zealand composers -wore performed. Speoial Erominence is given to works by composers orn in Now Zealand. Similar movements have'been brought into progress since the war commenccd in many parts of tho Empire, and already works of many promising composers have been brought to light. The Christchurch Festival Committee is inviting composers and poets throughout the dominion to submit works for performanco at. the 1918 festival. Particulars appear in this issue, and any further information may be obtained from the secretary, Mr Arthur Lilly. 465 Manchester street, Christchurch. Mr Lilly, who was the organiser of the movement, is a Dunedin-born musician and composer, who settled in Christchurch after his return from England some 10 years
