DUNEDIN COMPETITIONS
The Dunedin Competitions Society's annual festival will commence in the Burns Hall on Wednesday next. His Worship the Mayor will formally declare the festival open at 8 o'clock on Wednesday evening. The committee appreciates very much tho manner in which competitors have supported the 'society this year, 845 entries having been received, as against 758 last year. ' This is all the more gratifying, as the_ society is not giving any ©ash prizes, which shows that competitors compete for the honour of winning the various contests, and_ not for the sake of monetary gain. It i 3 felt that the public recognise the excellent work the society has done during the past 16 years, and it i 3 hoped the publio will show its appreciation by according the festival liberal patronage. The programmes for the various sessions should prove most attractive, and tho afternoon programmes have been arranged so that the publio will have a varied! programme. The recalls from the day sessions will be reheard at the evening sessions, and therefore the ervening programme will prove varied and attractive.
