A New York Times Washington despatch says that it is not believed that the United States anticipates'a conference of the AJies regarding the answer to the Popes Note, but America is making a separate reply based on that of the Allies' decision It is believed that the Entente will jointly reply through Britain.

Vonvarts expects that the Entente Powers will aJ refuse to negotiate,* and therefore Germany's reply should be favourable, thus enabling her to say that peace is impossible because of the enemies' wish to destroy the Fatherland.
