PRICES OF COMMODITIES.
j 'Ti When I was in conversation one day with my grocer he told me he would not charge the 3d extra duty on any tea he had in stock._ I .hought that was fair dealing, but since then I noticed that a law has been passed preventing merchants and grocers from charging the extra 3d on stocks on hand. . I think that Mr Maesey, some time during his career, said he would not be if\ favour of raising the price of the Jw ma " s , tob ,acco. I thought perhaps that might bo the reason the Government did not increase the duty on common pW tobacco. But you may have some idea of my astonishment when I received mv account from my grocer and learned he' had increased the price by 6d the pound. Now bn\ how am I to get this injustice recti! £i? t n i he Board of Trade assist, or shall i sue him for obtaining money under laJse pretences?—l am, etc August 20. Faih Trade _ . Line duty on plug tobacco has not been increased Before our correspondent-forma the conclusion that he has been cheated he had better bring the matter of the overcharge under the notice of-his grocer If the grocer is a fair trader he will rectify the mistake.—Ed.
