AMERICAN TANK STEAMER SUNK. CAPTAIN AND GUNNERS PRISONERS. Australian and N.Z. Cablo Association. WASHINGTON. August 13. The Navy Department has announced that th© American tank steamer Camp an a has been sunk by a U boat about eight miles off Isle Dieu, on the French coast (? He a'Yeu, south of St. Nazaire, Bay of Biscay coast). Fifty-seven survivors have landed. It is believed that the tank steamer's captain and four gunners are imprisoned in the "0 boat, ana _it is feared that they may suffer a fat© similar to that of Captain Fryatt (who was executed by the Germans after capture at sea and alleged trial in Belgium). CITY OF ATHENS CASE. TWENTY LIVES LOST. WASHINGTON, August 13. The State Department announces thai 15 passengers and five of the crew were lost vfiion the American steamer City of Athens sank after striking a mine off Capetown. The passengers lost include four missionaries and an Englishman naimed Nuckworth, with his wife and six children.
