HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
COMMITTEE REPORTS. Tiro following is a summary of tho various committee reports to bo considered at tho meeting of tho Otago Hospital and Charitable Aid Board on Thursday evening:— Tho Benevolent Committeo reports having dealt with 44 cases for relief at a weekly cost of £18 4s 6d. Ono case has been stopped- Casual cases for relief amounting to £156 10s 3d have been approved. During tho past month five persons havo been admitted to, 10 disonargcd from, and two doaths have occurred at tho Otago Benevolent Institution. At present 185 inmates remain. Payshects and accounts amounting to £917 8s lid have been passed for payment. Tho Sanatorium Committeo reports that the agreements with thc undermentioned boards in respect of treatment of patients from their districts in tho Pleasant Valley Sanatorium will expire on August 31, 1917— viz., Waitaki Hospital and Charitablo Aid Board, Southland, Wallace and Fiord, Ashborton, South Canterbury. Consideration of this matter has 'been held over pending advice from the Inspector-general. In tho meantime it has been intimated to tho various boards that tho agreements will bo extended. Payebeets and accounts amounting to £380 8s Sd have. been passed for payment. The Hospital Committee recommends that tho necessary internal alterations on the ground floor of tho nurses' old home to provido additional accommodation for the massage out-patient department, as shown in t.ho plan submitted by the architects, be approved. That tho proposal submitted by the architects and engineer to purchase an ironing, drying, and finishing machine with four rollers, as per quotation from Messrs Andersons (Ltd.), be approved. From July 7 to August 4, 12 patients have been admitted to, four discharged from, and 14 persons' remain in tho Fever Hospital. The medical superintendent has submitted a letter from Dr Robertson, of Tapanui. in further reference to ono of tho nurses whose cases were discussed at tho last meeting of tho board and this has been forwarded, to the Inspector-general. Payshects and accounts havo boen passed for payment amounting to: General account, £5205 19s 3d; Campbell interest account, £11 7s 2d. The Financo Committeo recommends that authority bo granted to remove the iron fence a.t tho Batchelor Hospital in order to allow the hedges to grow, ami that a cross paling fence sft 6in high be erected in its place. The contracts for supplies are expiring on September 30, and authority has been granted to call fresh tenders for the supply of bread, meat, milk and cream, fuel, and funerals for tho Dunedm Hospital and Nurses' Home, Otago Benevolent Institution, Pleasant Valley Sanatorium, and Maternity and Fever Hospitals. Payshects and accounts amounting to £5341 10s 2d harvß been passed. for payment. The balances of the various accounts of the board on the 12th inst. wero as follow:—General account, £14,527 lis lOd (debit); Campbell interest account, £335 7s 2d (credit); Hospital Saturday account, £3103 5s 9d (credit); leaving a net debit of £11,088 18s lid.
