The Queen's Theatre was •well patronised Saturday afternoon and evening, America Prepared for War," "The Snarl," "The Great Bag Bride" are tho features of tho programme, which will lie screened again to-day. Burton Stevenson's thrilling detectivo novel, "The Mystery of tho Boulo Cabinet, ' which has been transformed, into a remarkable and exciting picture under tho title of The Pursuing Vengeance," will bo shown at the Plaza Theatre to-day. lxio method in which the story is tokl is said to bo wonderfully impressive, whilo the action thrills and mystifies. Other excellent pictures complete a first-class programme. On Monday, August 20, a sixpart photo-play entitled Ignorance " will bo shown at thi3 theatre. The picture is said to be part of a scheme set on foot by the Young Women's Protection League to combat vice and immorality. Big crowds witnessed tho second screening of " Tho Child of Destiny" at the Empire Theatre on Saturday. The picture is a most entertaining subject, dealing with the vicissitudes in tho life of a young and beautiful girl. The interest in tho "Iron Claw," which is being shown at Everybody's Theatre, remains unabated. There are numerous supporting films, notably Kitty Mackay, and tho programme is comprehcnsivo enough to please everybody. CONCERT AT PORTOBELLO. The> Coronation Hall at Portobollo was ! well filled on Friday evening, on the occa sion of the seventeenth concert and danc of Lodge Hcreweka, No. 60, 1.0.0.F Songs were rendered by M:s3 Vickere, Mrs I 'T t. *^ :ss Robinson, Messrs Rutherford I and Bacon, Mr Paisley. Mrs Royrc. and j rPI II ' 1110 Stokes. _ Messrs Mat-Donald nnd Robertson -gave displays of dancing. Miss Lily Foster contributed a splendid elocutionary offering in "Kid from limaru, whilo Pa-ul Reno (comedy juggler) created a lot of interest, and J. E. Norman Rigg (eccentric comedian) was another great success. Mr Austen played the illtisir for the dance, and the Dunedin Mandolir Band also assisted.
