Arthur Ernest ClarJc, aged 47 years, marned, and awaiting trial on a serious charge hanged himself in Mount Eden Gaol this morning. , WANGANUI, July 30. .blank Coles, aged 18 years, a son of Mr Coles (senior clerk in the Chief Post Office) was drowned while crossing a swollen stream on Mr William Connor's property on tho Wanganui River to-day. The body had not been recovered at a late hour tonight. '.. MASTERTON, July 30. ° a little boy named Spackman was handling a Winchester rifle this afternoon 't discharged, and tho bullet passed through the body of a little girl named Annie Davy aged four years, killing her almost instantly! It also entered the leg of a boy named Fred Davy, causing a flesh wound The father of both the victims is on active service, and has been wounded. Andrew Campbell, formerly a launch owner, was found dfead one day last week on the Tauranga road, near Te Pu. He collapsed while driving to Rotorua. Death is supposed to have been caused by eating wild honey by which hia father-in-law and mother-in-law (Mr and' Mrs White, of Rotongata) 'were made ill. Miss Daisy Miller, daughter erf Mr James Miller, Maungatoa, met with a rather painful accident recently. She was riding a horse when it stumbled, throwing her to tho ground, with the result that her faoo and tonguo were badly bruised and cut. She also sustained a slight fracture of the base of the skull, requiring medical attention.
