LAKE LOGAN
IS ITS CONDITION SANITARY ? A short discission took place at the Otago Harbour Board's meeting last night on the subject of Lake Logan. This arose over a recommendation by the Standing Committee that a letter from Mr J. K. Simon regarding the condition of the lake be received, and that the matter stand over until a report was received from the resident engineer. Mr Simon requested to bo informed if the board was aware that there had been a few cases of diphtheria and fever in Harbour terrace, near Lake Logan, and if the health inspector had inspected the slime and filth. The writer had also noticed that a flock of birds that generally rested and . fed on the sand banks were in hundreds on the slime, and he would like to warn, the board of the danger. Lake Logan was in an awful state. Mr Wilkinson moved the adoption of the recommendation. Mr Larnach seoonded the motion pro forma, and, in doing so, asked when there would bo a report in connection with the matter, and also when the letter referred to came into the hands of the board. The Chairman: The letter came in on June 27. Mr Larnach said there should have been a report before, the hoard already. Mr Bardsley said that the first meeting at which this letter oould come up was held last Monday. Mr WiTkie had made two or three appointments with. the health officer, but these had to be put off on the request of the health officer. Mr Larnach: This matter should not be allowed to stand. There is disease in this place, and it is put down to nothing else thSn the state of the lake. The recommenddtion was adopted.
