The monthly meeting of the N.H Vallev Band of Hope was held on Thursday evening.. Pastor Morris presided at a wellattended gathering. The items given depicted the havoc wrought by alcohol. All the items were well rendered. The chairman's speech dealt with the Government's attitude on the 6 o'clock closing movement. Tho third of the series of home craft lectures at the Young Women's Christian Association was on tho subject of "Invalid Cookery" by Miss Anderson, of the Domestic Scienco Hostel. Miss Anderson emphasised the different values of various kinds of foods, explaining the nature and requirements of certain kinds of ailments and the relative value of tho' food which could be given. Her remarks on how to prepare food for- an invalid in order to make it as attractive and nutritive as possible were greatly appreciated. The Young Women's Christian Association in Wellington recently set out to raise £10.000 in order to purchase its hostel, in addition to the administration building, which is at present in use for soldiers. Already £5450 has been contributed, and the board of directors is confident that the full amount will bo forthcoming.
