ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
A workman named Cox, who was engaged on a vessel at Port Chalmers on .Saturday, fell 30ft down'a hold, and sustained injuries to which he subsequently succumbed. Mr Cox. who was a married man, resided in High streot, Diineclin. An inquest will 'bo held to-day. A boy named Jacob Howley, 12 years of age, whose home is in Commerce streot, •South Dunedin, had the misfortune to break his left leg yesterday while wading in the sea at St. Clair. Inquiries at the Hospital show that he is progressing as well as can bo expected. The Christcluji'ch Press states that Mr Alfred Gustavo Tholming, an old and highly-respected farmer of Le Bon's, mot with an accident on Monday morning. "When he was sledging his milk down to the factory on a. steep cutting, the sledge ran .against the horse's legs. The horse lashed out, breaking Mr Tholming's arm and causing other serious injuries. Ho was attended to by Dr CantrclJ and taken to the Akaroa Hospital on Tuesday. Every attention was given him, but he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday night. Mr Thclroing will be sadly missed in the district. When bidding farewell to his son going to the war some months ago, his last words were: " Remember, you como of the old fighting stdok, and fight as they fought for the old flag you have lived under from your birth."
