ACTIVITY RESUMED. ENTHUSIASM EVERYWHERE. .J . ■ ROME, April 20. ■ Advjces from Petrograd state that activity is resumed throughout the eastern and southern fronts. General Alexieff reports enthusiasm everywhere for a continuation of the war. Work is being speeded up in all Russian -military establishments, the number of which lias been increased. AUSTRIA'S PEACE PROPOSALS. REJECTION . PRACTICALLY _- ASSURED. LONDON, April 20. (Received April 22, at 5.5 p.m.) The situation in Russia is developing ynost satisfactorily. There is little doubt that tHe Austrian peace advances will be scornfully rejected. Thev synchronised with studied inactivity on the Austrian front which the Russian generals willingly accepted while the peasant soldiers returned from the villages to which they had rushed in large numbers after the revolution. The peasantry are repudiating the Petrograd and Moscow extremists, and even the extremist newspapers are disowning the peace proposals. The Government is pardoning all deserters who return before May 14.
