There was reciprocal artillery work at a number of places. LONDON, April 22. (Received April 23, at 0.45 a.m.) Sir Douglas Haig reports:—The enemy's attempt to recover Gonnelieu was unsuccessful. Our artillery killed many of the attackers. We made progress on the north bank of the Scarpe eastward of Fampaux. We also advanced our line south-west of Lens. Counter-attacks were repulsed.
