THE HONEY CROP
REVIEW OF THE PROSPECTS. Tho Director of the Horticulture Division of 'the Department of Agriculture has received from tho apiary instructora tko following reports concerning tho honey crop prospects:—
Wellington.—The provinces of Wellington, Hawko's Bay, and Taranalri hare gathered crops only slightly 'below tho average in quantity, but tho average in quality. Present prices are likely to be maintained. The popularity of honey is increasing by leaps and 'bounds, and it is surprising that the general public are only recently beginning to appreciate this food. Dunedin.—Tho season has closed much earlier, and slight frosts arc affecting the lato flowers. Taken altogether, the season in Otago and Southland has exceeded the expectations of most beekeepers, and, without exception, good crops have been secured. In the memory of the beo-kcepers the season closing is one of the_ best on record. The quality of the honey is excellent, as is .usual when an uninterrupted flow sots in from tho clover flowers. Prices are firm. Auckland. —The returns from North Auckland are somewhat not having como up to expectations. iSouth of Auckland the returns are. generally good. Indications are for an early winter. Prices are in advance of last year ;in some cases merchants are offering s£d to 6d per lb, and finding tins and paying freight.
Gold coins will gradually fall into disuse, as tho cost, of printing and issuing- notes of nominal value can bo but a. fraction of Hie total expense involved by tho abrasion of gold coin in tho course of circulation. - v
