DRAINAGE BOARD METHODS.
TO TOE EDITOR. Sib,—ln reply to the letter by Messrs M'Skimming and Son, written, as they state, for 'tho welfare of the ratepayers of Dunedin," _ this is the second or third timo these pin-pricking tactics have been mentioned'through the medium .of the press. In order to prove tho quality of the article and so that _ the pulblic may be absolutely Sure it is being well served, I propose that you ; Sir, nominate two reputable drainage engineers from the main cities of New Zealand, theso engineers to bo empowered to pick at random a certain number of pipes from stocks contributed by Messrs M 'Skimming and ourselves. The engineers shall then judge tho pipes and decide which is the superior article for drainage purposes. Each party shall lodge with you £20. Should tho engineers decide our pipes aro the superior pipes then Messrs M'Skimmingshall forfeit their £20 to tho Red Cross Fund and pay all engineers' expenses. If vice versa, we to do likewise. This is the first time in our business experience that an opponent in business has taken up an attitude of writing through the press as a benefactor; when he is the most interested person. It would possibly be interesting to the ratepayers to know tho prices tho Dunedin Drain-age and Sewerage Board has paid during tho period of its works, particularly before Tcmuka pipes were first considered in Dunedin, as against contract rates. When this information is to hand. Sir, we will leave t'le public to judge -who is the benefactor of tho welfaro of tho ratepayers of Duncdin;"—l am, eto., J. R.
