SCHOOL COMMITTEES' ASSOCIATION.

The quarterly meeting of the School Committees' Association was hold in the Education Board's room last night. Mr P. Johnston (vice-president) occupied the chair. l'ho executive's report stated that tho matter of forming a South Island School Committees' Association, as suggested by tho Southland Schools' Association, still remains in abeyance, awaiting further information from that body as to financial arrangement and other matters. The report was adopted, and the meeting expressed its sincere regret at the deaths of Mr C. R. D. Richardson, iho Hon. Dr Mnab, and Sir George? M'Loau. ' A letter was received from tho Caledonian Society with regafd to snorts on March 17 in aid of the Red Cross "funds. The Forbury School Committee forwarded tho following resolution passed by it: — "This committee considers that the resolution passed at the conference of the Teachers' Institute, recently held in Wellington, regarding tho curtailment of the educational districts and tho powers of the education boards is ar. undemocratic move on the part of the proposers. We recognise tho good work carried on by the education boards at the present time, and trust that nothing will be done by tho Minister of Education that would teiid to interfere with the harmony existing between school committees and the education hoards. My committee asks your association to frame; a suitable resolution, and forward sumo to tho Minister of Education, which would have the support of all committees." A discussion followed, in which tho majority of the speakers supported the resolution of the Forbury Committee, while one- gentleman .-sked "for arguments in favour of the retention of education boards and another described the boards as cumbersome and expensive. On the motion of Mr Dalton, seconded by Mr Wright, it was resolved to support i the Forbury Committee's resolution, and protest against tho resolution carried by the Teachers' Institute. A copy of the resolution will be forwarded to the Minister of Education.
