New Zealand, tho most interesting of these* bem" the appointment of tho Rev. R. Y. Hudson, M.A., to bo acting temporary chaplain. Mr W. 0. B. Rich becomes acting gunner, and Mr H. Carter acting boatswain. The many friends of Captain E. T. R. Carlyon, of tho Sherwood Foresters, will bo glad to hear that he is one of tho fortunate officers to bo sent to Switzerland from Germany for exchange. Captain Carlyon was missing in February this year, and was supposed to havo been killed, but some time later ho was discovered to havo been taken prisoner by the Germans, in a critical condition, having lost an eyo and suffered great hardship from exposure in tho snow, where he had been lying .for moro than a day before ho was picked up. His parents live m Hastings, H.B. _A Wellington boy who has distinguished himself in tho British Army is Captain J. F. B. Stovenson, eon of Mr .T. Stevenson, of tho Hansard staff. Capfciin Stevenson is an old boy of Wellington College, and a student of Victoria College. He left New Zealand .with the Main Body as a. trooper in tho Wellington Mounted Rifles, and was nominated for an Imperial commission early in 1915. Ho was appointed to the Lancashire Fusiliers, and served with tho famous 29th Division through Gallipoli, being both at Helios and Suvla. Ho has been in France for some time, and was awarded the Military Cross for his conduct in a raid on the enemy trenchee at Ypres. Captain Stevenson is now on short leave in London.

Corporal W. B. Bridger, of tho A.S.C. (Dunedin), is spending Christmas, with relatives in England, having been granted a week's leave from the front, whero lie has spent most of his time since August, 1914. Captain E. H. Raweon, who had a commiesion in the New Zealand Dental Corps, and who recently transferred to the Imnorial Army, is now second lieutenant in the Royal Field Artillery. Corporal G. D. Harle (Milburn, Otago), who began his service in a field ambulance, and was afterwards transferred to the ranks of the Riflu Brigade, was awarded the Military Medal in October, and has now a\ commission in the King's Royal Rifle Corps. Miss Agnes Boyd Allen (Waipiro Bay) has returned t.o England after some months' service in"Mesopotamia.' She is a member ipf Q.A.1.M.N.8., and was with, the 32nd Hospital at Amara. ' * 'Mr A. N. Field,, who was a private in tho New Zealand Rifla Brigade, and .was wounded at Armentiercs, was recently dlschnr!7"d from the New Zealand Expeditionary Force as unfit for further service. He is now gazetted as assistant paymaster in the R.N.V.R. Mr Field was a well-known journalist in Wellington. Private O. H. Wright, of the Auckland Infantry, has been granted his discharge from tho New Zealand - Expeditionary Force, to take up a commission in the R.N.R

Lieutenant H. Stanley Wagstaff, Second Battalion 3rd New Zealand Rifle Brigade (Timaru) is a patient at the Second London General Hospital at Chelsea, where ho has been for the last throe weeks. He is making a ■ good recovery from severe shrapnel wounds received in France, but his hand is still incapacitated. He will probably remain at St. Mark's Hospital for some weeks longer, and contemplates spending his convalescence in_ the North of England and in Scotland. Lieutenant Wagstaff is the son\ of Mr T. Wagstaff, Auckland. , . Two sons _of Mr J. Murgatroyd (lato of Canterbury) are on service. Both were born in New Zealand. Aitlcen has been discharged from the N.Z.E.F. to take a commission in the Royal Naval Reserve. Lance-corporal D. M. Ayerill Humphreys (Cliristchureh), who got his commission in tho_ Warwickshire Yeomanry last August, i 3 in the 2nd Dragoon Guards (Queen's Bays), and is stationed for the present- at Aldershot. Perry, R.A.M.C. (Christchurch), is medical officer attached to tho 1/C, North Irish Horse. He has recently been over on short leave. From May till October he was attached to the 46th Division, and saw a great deal of the heavy fighting. Sub-lieiitenant A. L. Fraser, R.N.R., who is stationed- at Sheerness, belongs to the Taieri. Until coming to England for service ho was second officer on the Te Anau. Engineer Sub-lieutenant N. P. Hopkins, R.N.R,, now on active service, belongs to Christcliuich/ , Lieutenant A. Holden, R.F.C. (Clyde), is now at tho front with his •squadron, and already has done some flying over the German lines. He is in his squadron's Rugby team, and has lately played several matches. Lieutenant R. M. Sterndale, North Lancashire Regiment (Otago and Canterbury), has been obliged to relinquish his commission 011 account of ill-health, caused by wounds. Lieut. T. E. Y. Dr J. A. Berry has lately passed his Heal at Guy's, and has joined the N.Z.M.C., with the rank of lieutenant. Dr Berry saw a little service at the beginning of tho war, but was sent back as a medical student to complete his studies. Captain J. L. Ftazerhurst, N.Z.M.O. (Whangarei), is returning to New Zealand. Sergeant M. P. Astley, 4/3 A, N.Z. Dental Corps, , has been promoted lieutenant to fill the vacancy caused by ,the transfer of Cap-: tain E. H. Marshall has been pronounced medically unfit for duty for a period of 12 months. Miss Marshall was incorrectly mentioned in an official statement on _January 1 as being unfit for further service. Driver D. King, 10/1273, has left Hornchurch, on route for Grantham, to tako a courso at the Machine Gim School. Having been declared medically unfit, .Sapper G. Withdl, N.Z.E.F., who was selected for a commission, has completed his training at Lichfield, and is now lieutenant, Ist Canterbury Battalion.
