NEW BRITISH PENSION SCHEME.
THE DETAILS' EXPLAINED. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. • LONDON, February 28. (Received March 1, at SJS p.m.) The new pensions to disabled soldiers, sailors, and dependents of those killed allow privates who are disabled to the highest degree—such as lunacy, loss of two limbs or a limb, and an eye or both eyes— J7s 6d weekly, with allowances for children. The pensions cover many degrees, the lowest being 5s 6d for the loss of two fingers. An important provision takes account of the pre-war standard of living, and pensions for that purpose inay reach (inclusive) a maximum of £3 15s. Widows generally receive half of the highest disablement scale and full children's allowance. Provision is made for gratuities, with a maximum of £200 for minor injuries, instead of a pension. FRAUDS IN RECRUITING OFFICES. OFFENDERS SENTENCED LONDON, February' 28. (Received MarcTi 1, at 5.15 p.m.) In connection with the White City (London) recruiting case, Dr William Burch Oaiey and John Mitchell, a civilian paymaster, were sentenced' to 18, Hun-h Brinkman to 12, and Dγ Andrew Robertson Dow to nine months' imprisonment bergeant-major William Sheppard was acquitted on charges of fraudulently granting certificates of unfitness for active service to men of military age.'
