(Received March .1, at 7 p.m.) , The Butchers' Guild entertained Mr Massey, Sir Joseph Ward, and Sir Thomas Mackenzie. Mr Massey said the New Zealand Government had paid £14,000,000 on behalf of the British Cioveminent format purchased. He referred to 'the iact that Argentina was enabled to sell meat uncontrolled, while meat from inside the Empire was sold subject, to Imperial Governmenfc control. More satisfactory arrangements had now been made, which wouUJ last to the conclusion of the war. While •New Zealand producers were entitled to a fair price, it was not intended to take' advantage of the war. to secure extreme ■ rates. New Zealand was well able to in-' crease her output in a few years, if properly j encouraged. The Empire's poW snould be to procure supplies -within our own boundaries. ■ ' ■. .
