CHRISTMAS BOXES TO THE MEN OF H.M.S. NEW ZEALAND.
Captain John E. Green, of H.M.S. New Zealand, under date January 1, 1917, writes to tho secretary of the Otago branch of the Navy League as under:— "On behalf of tho petty officers and men of this ship, I write to thank you very sincerely for your most generous gift of tobacco and chocolate to this shin. Your kind gift is, needless to say, very much appreciated, - and also tho kind thoughts that ..prompted the gift. Wo wish you all every kind and good wish for this now year and after." A card accompanies -the letter. On tho front cover the name of the ship appears in gilt on a blue scroll under a gilt embossed crown and over the words " Kia ora!" Inside the covers are pictures of a seaman and a lad who is ringing tho ship's bell (on, which .' re marked the names " Heligoland," "Dogger Bank," Jutland"), and oa the opposite leaf is a view of tho quarterdeck.
