Mr J. M. Dickson, M.P.", who was one of the party that made the recent tour of tho North Auckland Peninsula, returned to his home .by the express train from the north on Saturday night. Sir James M:lls left the dominion last week on his return to Great Britain.

The Hon. Major James O'Sullivan, Inspector of Equipment and Ordnance Stores, retired on Wednesday from active duty in the Defence Department, at his own" request. after nearly 39 years' continuous service, during 16 years of which he was in charge of the Defence Stores Branch (says the Dominion). The congregation at Hanover Street Baptist Church last evening were informed that the Rev. R. S. Gray, who met with a severe accident on the Taieri Rivor on Monday last, had sustained no permanent injury, and is making good progress towards recovery. A cable message was received in Auckland last week from Dr H, W. Clearv, Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, bv Monsignor Mahony, V.G., administrator of tho diocese. Dr Cleary states that he lias consulted specialists in Harley street, London, and his health is now very satisfactory. Dr Cleary says that ho has just returned from the trenches, where he has been serving as a chaplain. Ho has appointed four chaplains, and more arc required in England. Two students who have been ordained and two others, who aro to be ordained shortly, will accompany him on his return to New Zealand. Passages aro difficult to obtain, but ho hopes to leave within two months. A pleasing ceremony took place at tho Roslyn Woollen Mills on Saturday morn in" wnen the members of the scouring department and well-wishers made a presentation to Irooper M'Lennan, who was a member of sth Battery, Main Bodv, and who returned invalided from Egypt some months ago, and subsequently has volunteered and been accepted for tho Twenty-second Reinforcements. Mr John Torrance made the presentation, which consisted of a handsome luminous-faced wristlet watch and a wellfilled silver needle case. Tho speaker referred to the esteem in which Trooper M'Lennan was held, and in alluding to his action, wished him God-speed and a safe return. Trooper M'Lennan replied, after which tiireo hearty cheers were accorded him.
