Preliminary conferences for the settle* ment of the Irish question are already being held, and definite progress is expected immediately. It is understood that Mr Lloyd George is forcing the pace. He is sending additional government representatives to assist Mr Duke, Chief Secretary for Ireland, at the conferences.
