BOWLING

CHRISTMAS TOURNAMENT.

DOUBLES COMPETITION.

The Christmas bowling tournament inaugurated .by the Dunedin Centre, was brought to a conclusion on the Roslyn Green yesterday, tho weather still keeping fine. The green was in fine playing order, and there was a large number of spectators present to witness the semi-final and iinal. There were two green ties to be played off, the contests ret-uiting in IT. Smith becoming the representative of the Roslyn Green, and W. Wright of the Caledonian Green. The final in the Provincial Doubles, between Smith and Hendry, proved a good and interesting game. The pairs were never very far apart, but Smith kept the lead practically right through, and finished 4 up. In the City Doubles Gale went away with a big lead, and had placed 13 to his credit before C. R. Smith had begun to assert himself. The lead was too much to wipe off, and was materially increased by (he time the nineteenth end was played, when Smith retired. Smith certainly played with hard luok about the middle of the game, and towards the end his driving was not very effective. One regrettable aspect of the afternoon was the audible comments of the spectators as to the mcrifs and demerits_ of the shots played. It is a little unsettling, rot to say unnerving, to competitors, especially to those who happen to be falling behind, to hear remarks commendatory or otherwise, and it would bo much better if they were not made in a voice audible to the players. Following are the results: —
