BURNS CLUB

The 314 th concert of the Bums Club was given in the Art Gallery Hall last evening, when there was a large attendance of member? and friends. The chair was occupied by the president (Mr W. B. M'Ewan), who in 'a, short speech welcomed those present. He made feeling reference to the death of Mr J. J. Ramsay, an ex-president of the club, and spoke of his sterling qualities as a pioneer and a citizen. He thanked the choir and the Pipe Band for the part they had taken in the recent Hospital Friday collection, and the assistance they had given the club. A reference to the fact that Bombardier W. J. Brown, a son of the vicepresident of the club, has been decorated by the King for distinguished service in the field was loudly applauded. He stated that arrangements were being made for the fitting celebration of Burns anniversary on January 25. The items in tho concert were mostly well-known to the large audience, and gained an additional attraction from that fact. The encores were numerous, and Mrs M'Donald received a particularly gratifying reception. The programme was contributed to by tho following:—Mrs M'Donald, Mr T. Ritchie, Miss Brown, Master Norman Scurr, Mrs Scott Allan, Mr D. Fogarty, Mr Charles Scott, and Mr K. Webster. The choir, under_ Mr H. W. Armitage, gave several selections. The accompaniments during the evening were played in excellent .style by Miss E. Wright.
