PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, MIDDLEMARCH.

On Tuesday eveninc the annual congregational social was held m the A. and P. Hall. The heavy rain which fell during the afternoon and evening reduced the at>tendance to some extent, but did not interfere with the general success of the function. The Rev. J. Strandring presided, and was accompanied on the platform by the Moderator of the General Assembly (the Rev. \V. Scorgie), and the Rev. A. D. Mitchell (Anglican), who suitably addressed the meeting. The Moderator's address was on "War, Patriotism, and Prayer." The choir' and friends rendered a varied programme of anthems, sonss. recitations, etc. In the annual repoit from _ the session it was stated: "The congregation in each of the four centres, has suffeied much through the removal of a large number of our voung men —58 all told —who have given themselves to their Kincr and the Empire. Some have already met an honoured death, and some are now under treatment for wounds and sickness in the French and British hospitals."' The social was free to all, and a collection, taken after the treasurer (Mr T. W. Wi a c) had read the balance sheet, icalled over £11 After the benediction the ladies served supper to all who were present
