G Cuminnig (pirs.dent) occupi< el tho chair Tho Southlund School Committers' Association wiote regarding establishing a South Island Schools' Committees' Association, and suggestions for ad\antages of such: — t l) Annual meeting of delegates to be held m some central posit.on to consider all matters affecting school committers; (2) to oonservo the waning powers of school committees, (3) if possible, to arrange tor one uniform set of books for tho demmton.— After some discussion, tho matt n i was referred to the association meeting. A deputation of three members from tlie Bottle Committee waited on tho cvicutive m connction vuth tho co'lcctions ftom the various schools for patriotic purposes —Mi J. Blown (convenor) stated what had been done by the different schools m this chrec lion, having about 60,000 dozen already raised, and they hoped, as the result of a final effort, to incie-ase tho number to 100, COO dozen. They asked the executive 10 iceommcnd the committees to have a lialf-holidiy for this ptuoose. —After d scus sing the matter, it was decidcc! to ask committees to do this on Friclaj, September 1.
