A petition signed by 135.000 persons has been presented to the Legislative Assembly, praying that the liquor-selling hours (hotels now close at 9.30 p.m.) be not altered. SYDNEY, August 24. In the New South Wales Legislative Assembly Mr Holman anticipated that tho general election would be held late in January, 1917. Tho Women's Legal Status Bill, giving women the right, to sit in Parliament, was withdrawn on tho technical point that it was ultra vires under the Constitution Act.
