TULIP GARDEN FETE
THE RECORD DAY CLOSES TO-NIGHT. An absolute record was put up at tho Brydone Hall on Saturday afternoon and evening, the rece.pts exceeding those of any previous day. The children were largely in evdence at the afternoon session, and tho concert programme provided was listened to by a "full house." Nearly every child carried away something' to commemorate the fete. The main building and the annexes were packed in tho evening. Mus.c was supplied by tho Regimental Band of tho 4th Regiment (under Lieutenant George), and the conoert hall was also crowded. The concert was a great success, and, after an inteival, was repeated. The side shows were fully patronised, especially the " hoop-la." The tulip garden itself was practically sold out. In the afternoon a programme was contributed by Mrs Bligh's pupils in costume. The items were as follow:—Nursery rhymes, with act : ons—Kathleen Davidson, Bobby Ewing, Barbara Williams, Jock Hayward, Peggy Galbraith, Marjorie Kingston, Dorothy Roberts, Violet Livingston, Eileen Hanlon, Dick Davidson, Billy Mitchell, Rua Frapwell; Japanese dance." Molly Hunter; Dutch dance, Chummie Emmorson; danse des Bras, Molly Burt; Dutch song and dance—Eileen Mondy, Molly Burt; character impersonation ("John Bull"), Master Ernest Griffiths; character recitation, Miss M. Himmell; half-hour entertainment by the Vivian family, dance, Mrs Wyatt's pupils; sketch, Master Ernest Ouaw. After appearing at tho fete tho performers were taken from Victoria Hall to the Hospital, where they repeated their concert m the wounded soldiers' ward. In tho evening the following contributed to tho programme:—Violin solo. Miss Sparrow; song, Mrs Wilson; dance (Entente Cordiale), Misses Waters, Breen, and Ml'Laren; song. Mr Dobbie; humorous sketch. Miss Bathie Ilowio-Stuart: song, Mr Sligo; minuet, Mr and Mrs Napier; quintet, "' Tho Bounders" ('Varsity students). The fete will bo closcd to-night. There will be no afternoon session. The doors will not bo opened till 7 o'clock. The reserve stocks will be put into the various stall', and_ sales will bo made till 9 o'clock At that time a number of auctioneers w ill pell tho remaining goods and also tho decorations, including tho beautiful pergola and tho tulip garden. A splendid farewell concert will be given in the Victoria Hall. We havo been requested to state that, in consequence of the unexpectedly heavy demand for goods, so that it has been a matter of considerable difficulty for tho stall-holders to provide adequate supplies, even though these aro renewed daily, donations from well-wishers aro earnestly sought for to-day.
