Tho ground was in fairly good order, but the match was spoilt owing to the spectators eiKioaching on the tield of play. Union opened witn the sun at their backs, and weio attacking most of tho first spell. Paterson and Dryden scored tries, Aithur convex ting both. Aithur also hud a penalty shot that seemed to bo a goal, but the letcree ruled otherwise. In tho second spell. University, with the aid ol the wind, put up a stubborn light. Hamilton got away, and rail—or, lather, walked —behind the j osts. Pillmg convex ted the try. This leveiiio spuired Union to fuitiler eftort. First Glengarry and then Artkon ciosaed tho line, but were culled back for infnngo nients. Finally Dryden dived over, and Arthur again conveited. In a final passing rush by University Holmes secured a ime try, leaving the final score: Union 15 points. University C 8 points. Mr Clancy was referee. Piraies v. Aleajibra. Tho above match was played at tho Opolio Giound, which was m a very heavy ana muddy state. Pirates won tno toss, and played with a strong breeze m tho lust spell, registering 6 points to nil by halt time. ijnaumann and Robertson sioied. On changing over Alhambra made better uso ot the wind than Pirates had done, and registered 16 points. Gillick, P. Al'Lai en, Manly, and Poiwarth scored one ti / each, Fitzpatrick ,conveiting two with good kicks.. Just before time O'Malley (Piiates) made a brilliant attempt at go it, the ball just missing by inches. Both sides vveie playing a number ot junior player. Seoies,: Alhambra 16 points. Pirates 6 pomts. Mi J. llitiiburg was referee. Sodihehn v. Poet Chilmers. This match was played at ensbourne, and provided an interesting game. Do spite tho lucent heavy lams, tho ground was in splendid order, although a keeu noitheily wind made matteis a little unpleasant for the pk'yers. Both teams had a lair spiinkling ot jumois, all of whom acquitted themselves very cieditably. Poit, with tho assistance of tho wind, had tho best of tho play m tho fiist spell, but could crocs their opponents' lino only once, Rouse scoiiug fion a looso lush. On changing ovei, Southern early asscitod thcjr superiority, Doull and Fox scoring tries m qu.ck succession. Doull (a Ihnd Giade player) also kicked tluoo lino penalty goals, and played a dashing game tlnougliout. Final score: Southern 13 points. Port Chalmers 3 points. Mi M. Thompson was referee.
