1 DETAILS OF MANAKAU TRAGEDY. (Peb United Pbess Association.) WELLINGTON, August 5. Further details ot tho family fatality at Manakau show that Edward Bates, formerly of Petone, with his wife and two sons (aged 16 and five years respectively), wero living in a tent in rough country eight miles back from Manakau. _ Owing to the dangerous proximity of a big rata tree, it was decided to shift camp. While tho elder son was assisting a number of bushfellers to preparo a new site, tho huge rata tree, 7ft in diameter, fell right across the twit, bringing up tons of earth and completely burying the tent and the three inmates. The bodies of the father and son havo been recovered, but tho mother's body has not yet been found.
