EVIDENCE IN REBUTTAL.
(Pk* Übited Pbisb Ashooiatiok.) AUCKLAND, July 22. To-day is the thirty-eighth day of Rua's trial. 'I lie police aio now engaged tendering evidence in lebuital concerning statements mado by the Maoiis, in reference chiefly to (Jie firing of tho first «hot and to tho loss of money from Maungapohatu. 60 far 80 witnesses have been examined, and a number are still to enter tho box. It is not anticipated that tho trial will concludc before tho end of next week.
