LEGISLATION IN ECCLESIASTICS AFFAIRS. A NEW ASSEMBLY RECOMMENDED. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, July 7. (Received July 7, at 10.10 p.m.) The committee appointed by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York in 1914 to consider the relations of the Church and State, has prepared a lengthy report. It recommends the formation of a Church Legislative Assembly, consisting of bishops, clergy, and laity to legislate in ecclesiastical affairs, the lay representatives to include a proportion of wageearners. (Received July 7, at 10.50 p.m.) The committee proposes to appoint a Privy Council Committee as the link between the Church Legislative Assembly and Parliament, the committee to be responsible for bringing church laws, requiring parliamentary sanction before Parliament.
